Reliving the Raddest Decade - The Rerun the 80s Blog

Welcome 80's Kids! (And honorary 80's Kids!)

I'm Steve, the guy who loves taking you back to your favorite childhood memories from the 1980s. I started @RerunThe80s on Instagram in March of 2020 as a way to share childhood memories and all the fun stuff I've been collecting for decades, much of which I've held onto since I was a kid. (Thank you, Dad, for being a low-key hoarder.)

The '80s were such as special time for me. I was a child of the '80s, but had a teenage brother and sister during that time. So I grew up with all of the toys and cartoons, but I also got to experience MTV and '87 Camaros. My family owned a small arcade from about 1982 - 1988, and as Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes sang, I had the time of my life. I could play all of the Galaga, Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, and Frogger my little 80s kid heart desired. Our arcade had a jukebox that played Jump by Van Halen, Beat It by Michael Jackson, and just about anything else Kasey Casem was playing on American Top 40 that weekend.

Here's an actual photo from our arcade in the early '80s.

The arcade my family owned, named The Corral

It was western themed, and named The Corral. Here are a couple photos of the snack bar area. Yes, everyone is barefooted. It was South Carolina, and it was hot.

You can see the jukebox on the left, a small oldschool TV over on the right, and a bit of the western themed mural on the back wall on the right. I'm barefooted here as well. Guess we definitely didn't have one of those "no shoes, no service" signs.

The snack bar served all the stuff you'd expect - chili dogs, sodas, ICEEs, Atomic Fireballs, and Moon Pies.

Ok, enough about The Corral. For now.

Through my social channels, I'm typically delivering quick jolts of nostalgia. Something to brighten your busy day, even if just for a few seconds. Here, I'm planning to dive a little deeper into the things I post about each week, going more in depth with fun details, trivia, and hopefully discussions with you :)

I'll close this initial post out by saying thank you for time traveling with me. It's been amazing remembering our shared childhood experiences together. Please let me know what types of topics you'd like for me to cover in the future! I remember a lot, but I don't remember everything ;) And I know the 80s weren’t perfect, but they sure were a lot of fun.

Here’s to us “rerunning” more 80’s memories together! Much love to you all!

  • You should get an 80’s house and car, turn it into a museum. I would definitely visit!

  • Love your account and glad to have met you online. Would love to see topics of food products and things we had back in the 80s that are no longer prevalent.
